Restroom Trailer vs. Porta Potty: Which One Fits Your Event?

What is the main difference between a restroom trailer and a porta potty?
A restroom trailer is a towed unit with flush toilets, running-water sinks, lights and air conditioning. A porta potty is a single plastic unit with a holding tank and no hookups. Trailers feel like a home bathroom. Porta potties go almost anywhere and cost less per stall.
| Restroom trailer | Porta potty | |
|---|---|---|
| Flush toilet | Yes | No (deluxe has foot-pump flush) |
| Running water | Yes | No (add a sink station) |
| Power needed | Yes, standard outlet | No |
| Space | About 16 × 8 ft + path | About 4 × 4 ft |
| Best for | Weddings, VIP, film sets | Jobsites, parties, festivals |
When is a restroom trailer the wrong choice?
A restroom trailer is the wrong choice when the site has no level ground, no power within reach, or no path about 10 feet wide for the tow vehicle. Backyards behind a fence gate rarely work. In those cases, deluxe flushing units give guests a nicer experience without hookups.
See the deluxe flushing unit and placement guide.
Can I mix trailers and porta potties?
Yes, mixing is common. A trailer near the guests and standard units near vendors or parking stretches the budget. Add at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit, because a trailer with steps is not accessible. Size the total with the event calculator, then decide the mix.
Use the calculator or the trailer specs.
